The award-winning RAM 1500 returns for yet another year of stellar reviews, including a perfect 10/10 score from Car and Driver and a #1 segment ranking by U.S. News.
Of course, as a RAM truck dealer in Birmingham, we adore the 1500. It's got just about everything a full-size pickup truck should have. Here are a few reasons why the RAM 1500 tops the list of best trucks in America for 2022.
What Sets it Apart
The Art of Suspension

RAM has always tried to strike the perfect balance between a rugged exterior and a gentle ride for the driver. In fact, the RAM 1500 has even been called the most comfortable full-sized truck. This is due in part to its fantastic coil-spring (or optional air spring) suspension, which ensures the smoothest ride possible in the city, on the highway, and out in the country. The 2022 RAM 1500 has also been lauded for its serenely quiet cabin – which is driven by that great suspension system and thick insulation.
Unrivaled Interior Quality
The new RAM truck also offers the very best in interior features. The impressive and segment-best 12-inch display gives drivers plenty of infotainment options. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and even a mobile hotspot can be included, as can navigation and a glorious reconfigurable head-up display that projects everything from MPH to incoming calls to turn-by-turn directions. The touchscreen is fitted with physical knobs and buttons, too, for those of you who like things “old school.”Both the RAM 1500 quad cab and the extra-spacious crew cab provide an incredible amount of space to spread out. (You might even forget you’re in a truck because you mistook it for a tiny home.) Upfront, legroom pushes the norm at 40.9 inches; back-row legs get 45.2 inches of stretch-out-edness, which is more than competitors like the Chevy Silverado 1500 and Ford F-150.
Top-Tier Performance
This year’s RAM 1500 is available in five engine configurations, all dialed-in to ensure the best performance. The class-leading, almighty 5.7 HEMI V8 is back for another year, but we’re most excited for the mild-hybrid eTorque, which boasts 395 horsepower and gets an astounding 12,750 pounds of towing capacity, all but guaranteeing power without sacrificing efficiency.
The affordable 3.6L PentaStar, also with industry-best eTorque, comes available in most models. Don’t let its affordable price tag fool you; this one still puts out a rock-solid 305 horsepower.
The 3.0L EcoDiesel motor comes standard in the RAM Tradesman HFE (High-Efficiency Engine) and makes an awesome 480 lb-ft of torque while still delivering 33 MPG on the highway. Easily travel up to 1000 miles on a single tank of gas!
And, finally, the absolute beast that is the 6.2L HEMI V8, available only in the RAM 1500 TRX. The 6.2L rocks an impressive 702 horsepower and has been dubbed a veritable monster truck by some of the most respected voices in the truck community.
Fully Customizable

Under the hood isn’t the only place you’ll find RAM’s superlative level of customization. With eight different models and a cornucopia of different options within each, the number of choices might make your head spin. It’s like picking from a litter of puppies, or choosing a decent bottle of wine to impress a date: “how can I possibly decide?”
The Best in Infotainment
Uconnect Multimedia comes standard in all models and is a huge part of how RAM redefines just how comfy a pickup truck can be. The 5” display version comes standard in base models, like the Tradesman or the Big Horn, and is ready to go with Bluetooth capability. The next step up: the 8.4” digital touch display, which becomes standard starting with the Laramie trim, along with a premium 10-speaker sound system to give it that extra kick for the added Sirius XM and navigation.
The holy grail of digital displays, though, is the massive 12” touch screen, available in the Limited 10th Anniversary, and standard in the TRX trims. This can be augmented with the absolutely door-blowing 19-speaker Premium Plus audio system, and adds an unprecedented level of control over safety with a 360-degree camera and connectivity to the revolutionary RAM Know & Go mobile app.
Stellar Safety
To complement the multiple infotainment suites, RAM has added an array of optional active exterior sensors. Lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and trailer reverse assistance come standard in most models.Add-ons at higher trim levels are abundant as well and include a heads-up display, and frontal, rear, and parallel park assist in the Advanced Safety Group.
How it Stacks Against the Competition

All of these features are just the tip of the iceberg. One thing is clear: RAM is going above and beyond to give drivers and passengers alike the very best of all worlds. More power and towing capacity than the Tundra, more fuel economy than the F-150, and more comfort than the Silverado.
It isn’t just us singing its praises, either. The RAM 1500 has consistently beat the rest of the crowd in trusted critics’ lists of best full-size pickups this year. MotorTrend named it best pickup on the market for 2021, continuing a series of accolades that put the RAM at the top spot over and over again. It also made C&D’s coveted 10Best list, despite their usual trend toward sports cars. And to top it off, it made our list of top trucks to buy in Birmingham.
